Many thanks to the collectors who took these pieces into their collections and warmed their home with their exuberance and true love. This general focus of mine for the past 22 years includes works from both my Starling Series as well as my Birds Like Us works. It's genuinely cool to see the work in order of completion. I know I don't have everybody up here, but I did what I could with what records I have. In those 22 years I've moved 9 of my 20 times. So much history exists in this work. So much care. So much love. So much joy.
Visual and performing arts enhance the cultural diversity and awareness of a community. The arts increase a communities chances that they'll be inclusive and healthier. Children who have participated in art during their developing years, have a better chance at succeeding as contributing citizens. By default, art develops the mental capacities for curiosity and problem solving. So, in addition to making the world a more beautiful place through paintings, plays, songs, and movies, art also makes us better people. This series of gold paintings served as gifts to donors during their annual fundraising campaigns. Donors to organizations like Seattle University and Arts Fund received these works. All pieces were painted with gold backgrounds to symbolize that giving to the community and supporting the arts is a treasure. It's like gold.
I always say that it is important to paint what needs to be painted, especially when it comes to friends, family and the world we share. These paintings cover a range of topics from love to wanderlust to just wonderment of our lives. Many times these works are personal and have special meaning for both myself and the collector. If you have an idea of something you'd love to see painted, let's talk about it. Perhaps I can help bring your vision to life.
Each 15 x 15 inch square of these mosaics uses 2,304 of the smallest Lego pieces; the 1x1 plate. Currently, grayscale portraits start at 1,000 USD. We can also go larger and/or full color, and even use larger pieces for larger scale surfaces. These make great family heirlooms. Also, for a more personal touch, your families lego collection can be used in the final art!
These are the few documented collectors I have of this work. I lost all my data and notes from back then. If you have a piece of mine from that time period, please send me some images. As these collectors can attest, these paintings are statement pieces in their homes and businesses.
